Nocturnal Dialogues: Right to the night

26 September 2024 — 11 October 2024

A group exhibition with meditative and activist perspectives on the night

While the night is often overlooked, it plays a vital role in our lives, impacting society and biology in significant ways. Despite its importance, discussions about the night in the city are often limited to topics such as sleep, public safety or escapism.

The exhibition Right to the Night offers a more meditative yet activist perspective on what the night can represent in urban spaces. It proposes the night as a magical realm where we can more easily disconnect from the pressures of daytime such as productivity and conformity—a space to relax, dream of alternative realities and form the communities to make them happen.

Through the works of the selected artists, the exhibition encourages viewers to reflect on their own identities at night and consider taking a more active role in nightlife. It aims to shift the view of nighttime from a space of escapism to a vital source of energy that we all shape and contribute to together.

This exhibition emerges out of the programme series Nocturnal Dialogues, organized at VOX-POP, which aims to open up the discussion about how nighttime changes our cities and how life at night can become more inclusive.
