last portrait excavates personal family documents that we have collected over the years. ashleyho+domeniknaue are interested in how documentary matter from seemingly separate narratives can meet, to facilitate a generative and healing space through performance.

Weaving together text, sound, dance, and visual poetry, we braid connections amongst botany and illness, labour and care, and tradition and regeneration. Part of a generation hyper-aware of loss, how can thinking through cyclicality transform the way we experience loss?

The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot neither be created nor destroyed, only converted from one form to another. Buddhism teaches us that deep down there is no birth and no death, only continuation. We know this, and yet we are still shaken by the feeling of losing at every turn. We want to look at this brutality for what it is, and care for it.

last portrait consists of two different layers: it is a live performance, and it is also an installation that you can explore separately from the performance.
