Nick Deroo
Nick Deroo is a theater maker, performer and poet whose work starts from the carnality of our existence. He draws inspiration from the ultimate vulnerability and beauty he believes bodies harbor. For him, the body contains a collective identity because in it lies the core of destruction, comfort and connection. His work has a strong philosophical component, with themes such as melancholy, liminality and altruism. He is inspired by philosophers such as Simone de Beauvoir, Henri Bergson and Joke Hermsen.
His work has multiple starting points. Together with Tom de Ronde (collectief DeRonde/Deroo), he investigates the power of grand poetic images with a cinematic character, in which the audience is immersed in an absurd reality. He also works on location, where he seeks out the stillness in physical installations. Nick graduated in 2020 from the Mime academy in Amsterdam. With his collective DeRonde/Deroo he won the Amsterdam Frings Award in 2021 with the performance After the Echo.
