Project subsidies 2026-2028

Update May 7, 2026: Unfortunately, the budget for the first half of 2026 for professional art in categories 3 and 4 has been exhausted. There is a temporary suspension on applications until the end of June. Starting July 1, you can submit an application again. Click here for more information.

Whether you work as a professional artist or create culture in your spare time, starting in 2026 all project proposals can now be submitted under one single grant. This new grant, ‘Project subsidies 2026-2028’, supports a wide range of projects and cultural activities like:

- Art projects that can be seen or experienced in the municipality of Amsterdam. This may include exhibitions, performances, festivals, community activities and participatory projects, nightlife culture, and visual art in a public space.

- Research and experiment.

- Artistic development for professional artists (replacing the stipend).

- Development of cultuurmakers-organisations. Development of visual art in public spaces.

The new grant replaces two existing ones: ‘Projectenregeling Cultuurmakers’ and ‘Projectenregeling Professionele Kunst’, which also included the funding of visual art in public spaces, ‘Mijn Eerste Aanvraag’, and the stipend.

Who can apply?

‘Projectsubsidies 2026-2028’ is meant for artists, creators, organizations, and collectives in the municipality of Amsterdam, across all disciplines, genres, and sectors - from beginners to experienced applicants.

Important: you can only apply if you live or work in Amsterdam or surrounding municipalities:  Zaanstad, Oostzaan, Landsmeer, Waterland, Haarlemmermeer, Amstelveen, Ouder-Amstel, and Diemen. If you are applying as a foundation or association, your main office (inlcuding statutory seat) must be located in Amsterdam.

How much can you apply for?

You can apply for any of these four categories. The amount you request determines the category:

Category 1: from €1,500 to €2,500

Category 2: from €2,500 to €7,500

Category 3: from €7,500 to €17,500

Category 4: from €17,500 and up

The higher the amount requested, the more is expected of you. When applying, clearly describe what you plan to do, with whom, how, where, and also for whom it’s meant. Clearly explain your artistic or organizational choices and how you plan to carry them out. When your project is based on a social issue, describe how you plan to translate the social mission into an artistic project. The assessment criteria differ per category; we explain these under each category. You can use the tool at the bottom of this page to determine which grant suits you best.

If your application is not selected, you may try again another time. For the period from January through June 2026, the lottery dates are: 11 February, 11 March, 8 April, 13 May, and 10 June.

Applications in categories 3 and 4 are processed in order of arrival, as long as there is sufficient budget. For these categories, there are shared maximum budgets. For the period from January through June 2026, the following applies:
